In 2002, I wrote a script for a graphic novel, called Perfumum, a futuristic espionage spy comedy, largely inspired by Ron Embleton's lauded strip Oh Wicked Wanda! that I used to pore over as a hormonal teenager.
At the time, converting the words on the page seemed overly daunting; these were the days before my first dalmation-spotted imac, the era that preceded any knowledge or experience in Photoshop or Illustrator. I did a few tentative concept illustrations, but, after a while, the project ran out of steam.
3 years ago, I was digging around in the basement. It was then that I rediscovered the script and reread it while smoking a rather fine cigar.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience - the story was funny and utterly ludicrous, an unlikely mashup of Absolutely Fabulous, Austin Powers and the Minority Report. So it was that I decided to illustrate the thing.
